Originally heading towards Colorado, Doug and I decided to visit Greg and Mercedes, on the way.
Struggling to get rid of a sticking germ, my friend Doug dropped me by the road. Off to the woods I went, I search of some quietness and time alone to recover. Two days later, I was then able to face daily causalities and social exchanges. Doug picked me up and took us to Greg and Mercede’s place. We first met at the shamanic workshop 3 weeks ago.
We planed on staying only a few days but once again, plans will change…
After a morning splitting and stocking wood at greg’s new house, I decided to go check out the mountains overlooking the place. An easy walk took me up to one of the summit. Nepalese flags attached to a magnificent eagle welcomed me. I could see lake Taho from up there, a huge altitude lake well known across the sierra.
I decided to take off on the other side; it’s not really steep but landing options seemed more reasonable. Once up high, not many possibilities were offered and I decided to land at the bottom of the slopes rather than on the huge parking lot…first mistake! Then for some reason, I engaged a low turn that kind of eliminated most of landing possibilities already pretty tight…second mistake!
I then had no choice but to land sideway on the hill. Out of luck, I ended up on one of the dry river bed hidden by the grass….OUCH… As a result, a badly sprained ankle that forces me to hop around as a transport means: back on crutches!!!
Luckily, Greg and Mercedes took pity on me and opened their house for me to recover. Ten days have passed that I can now call them real friends. They really took care of me and made my stay more than just a “recovery time”.
Merecedes spent 8 years in France and speaks perfectly French with a slight accent that would charm more than one of us. She is a very mature woman. She gets delighted and excited about everything, which makes her company really pleasant. Greg used to say that hiking around with her is like having somebody on mushroom. She definitely has that positive energy that cheers you up no matter what. She was my personal yoga teacher and gave good poses to do with my little owie. We journey a couple of time together. She definitely has some crunchy shamanic stories to tell! She speaks with her heart and is really gifted with what lacks in most of us: feelings and emotions.
Greg is more grounded, he balances the energy around. He is attentive and generous, no doubts. He is the chef of the place and really raised the cooking level so high that It made it difficult for me to impress them! He taught me how to make amazing bread without kneading it. It’s a good one to know for the laziest of us. He dedicates most of his time running his ski clothing company he put of with a friend. It’s a small business but yet they create some really good stuff : www.flylowgear.com
In the end, my stay was a lot about crutching around the house, giving a hand with what I could do, enjoying amazing cooking and sharing good stories.
It’s now time to say goodbye, news plans have been made. Despite its heavy traffic and over crowded highways, California feels cozy and warm, enough so I will stick to it and slowly head south towards Mexico.
